Excurions in teaching English

Yesterday we went on excursion to 3 churches: a mosque, an Armenian Catholic church and an Ossetian Orthodox church. It was extremely beneficial as it's better to see once than to hear a hundred times. Do you use excursions as a teaching tool? In what way?
